Each month I will bring you one simple idea to try out in you life. The aim is to gradually upgrade your habits, routines and behaviours through small, easy to implement actions.

This Month

Simplify One Thing

‘The simplification of life is one of the steps to inner peace’  – Peace Pilgrim

February was named after the Latin term for purification so this is the perfect month to focus on simplifying or organising.

Choose one thing in your life that currently feels a bit chaotic, stressful, time consuming or exhausting – it might be something like your desk, your housework, your morning routine or your grocery shopping.

Identify what it is about your chosen thing that causes you stress and what you would like to change about it. Ask yourself, ‘if i was to make this really easy, what would it look like?’

Set some time aside to declutter, organise and simplify. You might need to be a bit inventive or even do some research to find a solution that will make a big difference. For example, if food shopping is a daily stress for you, try making a master shopping list and shopping online once a month for your basics and then visit the supermarket or greengrocer once a week, incorporating in a nice walk to make it more enjoyable.

We often get stuck in our ways of doing things a certain way, even when they are stressful. Taking an hour or two this month to step back and work on your life and your routines rather than just being stuck in it can make all the difference.

Try to take it one step further and think about how you can make it nice or add pleasure once you have organised and simplified. For example, flowers on your desk, a five minute visualisation in your morning routine or listening to your favourite music with housework can make your day to day reality much more enjoyable.

Small changes make a big difference. Once you have simplified and organised, keep it that way. Use any extra time you gain to breathe deeply and enjoy.
