Each month I will bring you one simple idea to try out in your life. The aim is to gradually upgrade your habits, routines and behaviours through small, easy to implement actions.

This Month

Visualise how you want your day to go

Most of us get up in the morning and are carried along by the busy events of the day until we find ourselves ready for bed again. The emotions we experience and the physical state of our body are a direct response to whatever is happening in the day. We might find that we dread the day or a specific part of it, don’t feel we have the energy we require or don’t feel in control.

This month, adopting one simple habit as soon as you wake up in the morning can change all that.

When you wake up, spend  a few minutes running through the day ahead in your mind and visualising how you like your day to go. Imagine yourself successfully completing each appointment or meeting, achieving tasks on your to do list, meeting friends, eating well etc. However you would like your day to run, you should imagine. Also, imagine yourself feeling how you would like to feel throughout the day. For example, you might imagine yourself feeling calm in traffic during your commute, you might imagine yourself feeling full of energy at every part of your day or you might imagine retaining a positive mindset through all your meetings. What you want to feel and how you want your day to run should be brought to life in your imagination. Try to imagine right through until you go to bed at night.

You might do this exercise when you are still in bed before getting up, while brushing your teeth or with your breakfast or a cup of tea. You might speak through your day out loud or you might do this all in your mind – whatever you feel most comfortable with.

This simple exercise can have a massive impact on your life. You begin to expect to feel good and so your body responds and feels better. You give your mind a positive road map to follow. You develop a more optimistic outlook. You become more productive and feel positive about the things you achieve and what you are capable of achieving.

‘Believe in what you want so much that it has no choice but to materialise’
