Contrary to popular misconception, hypnosis is NOT sleep.

Brain scans show a change in brain activity during hypnosis. Our brain waves move to a lower frequency, often associated with dreaming (this is probably why so many people mistake it for sleep).

There is an increase in activity in the right side of the brain which is the creative side, and a decrease in activity on the left side which is associated with logic and reasoning.

The right side of your brain is driven by feelings and beliefs. It’s imaginative, creative and processes visual images. So, in hypnosis when the right side of your brain is more active, your mind is more open to suggestions and new, more helpful ideas which would usually be opposed by our conscious, rational mind.

It is often difficult to creatively solve our own problems in daily life because the left, logical and rational part of the brain which is analytical and deals in facts, is active.

So, what does all this mean?

Well it means that by using hypnosis, you can find a way to move through whatever problems you have in your life. Your brain already holds the answers you need, you simply need to learn how to access them. As the hypnotherapist, I am simply the guide that helps to show you the way to thinking and feeling differently.

My clients are often surprised by just how easy it all is, and say ‘I wish I had done this sooner’.

How does hypnotherapy feel?

Have you ever had a daydream where for a few minutes you are completely lost inside your own mind? Daydreaming is exactly the same feeling as hypnosis, the only difference being that we are using hypnosis specifically to help you make a change or solve a problem. You are in complete control during hypnosis, just as you are when you are daydreaming, but you choose to be lost in your thoughts.

Everyone experiences the feelings of hypnotherapy every day. It is a natural state. For example, when you are completely absorbed in a book or a film and time seems to fly by. When you drive from one place to another and can’t remember the details of the journey in between, you have been in a natural trance state. Your brain already knows how to do hypnotherapy, I just show it the way and introduce new ways of thinking.

So, whether its anxious thoughts you don’t seem to be able to get a hold of, a weight problem that feels out of your control or an addiction that feels unmanageable…change the way your mind is working and you will find your solution.
