Each month I will bring you one simple idea to try out in you life. The aim is to gradually upgrade your habits, routines and behaviours through small, easy to implement actions.

This Month

Complete an Energy Audit

Every person we have in our life and every activity we do in our life acts as either an energy drain or an energy radiator.

An energy drain is a person or activity that surrounds you in negativity, that literally drains your energy and makes you feel worse about the world. It might be a person who seems to suck the life out of you by talking at you and never listening, or it might be an activity or commitment that makes you unhappy or feel bad about yourself.

An energy radiator is a person or activity which fills you full of enthusiasm, positivity and energy. It might be a person who makes you feel good and seems to really care about what you have to say. It might be those activities that you really enjoy and that fire you up.

So, this month, complete an energy audit. Identify the main people in your life and the activities you do on a consistent basis. For each, consider whether they drain your energy (energy drain) or give you energy (energy radiator). Try to be honest with yourself even if the answer is not what you would like it to be.

Each of us only has a certain amount of energy to spend each day. We need to make sure we have lots of people and activities in our lives to replace the energy that is taken away by day to day stresses and responsibilities.

Apply the 80/20 rule to your life outside of work. Aim to spend 80% of your time with the 20% of people in your life who are the biggest energy radiators. Similarly, aim to spend 80% of your time doing the 20% of activities that make you feel the most positive and energised.
